ENDNOTES

1. United States Geological Survey Map, Germantown Quadrangle (Denver, CO or Reston, VA, 1983).

2. In a circa 1935 photograph of the facade [q.v.], the windows are 2/2 double-hung sash.

3. In the photograph c.1935, the fanlight above the door has five divided panes in a simplified gothic tracery pattern.

4. In the c.1935 photograph of the facade, the balusters and upper and lower rails are wood and the roof supports are fluted ionic columns. If I may guess, these could be alterations made by Joseph Adams since they are not a Gothic style elaboration.

5. In the c.1935 photograph, the central window is a double-leaf door opening onto the porch roof. This second-story porch is enclosed by a rail fence, possibly with the original diamond-pattern design. The fanlight window in the photograph has panes divided by a simplified gothic tracery design. The four adjacent rectangular windows had 4/4 double-hung sash.

6. In the photograph c. 1935, the arched window has a four-pane configuration in the top two thirds of the frame and the bottom third is a wooden panel.

7. In the c.1935 photograph there are four divided panes in this window.

8. In the photograph c. 1935, the cornice is wood with an open rake with enclosed rafters and purlins. It is possible that at one time the roof overhang may have had decorative bargeboards. In c. 1935 there was a standing-seam metal roof.

9. This indicates a now-demolished roof structure, and, indeed, the 1949 survey map shows a frame structure in that location; existing flagstone paving nearby suggests that at one time this part of the grounds was used as a porch/patio area.
